Piney woods-Big sky

The night at the fairy ball and the skin of the Maid-of-the-Sea sing the ballad that I am clan Morrison. Cutting down cardboard boxes for drawing materials say I am an artist. I was born and raised on the edge of East Texas.  I went coming among the pines. My dad was in oil as a chemist there was a humongous statue of Sam Houston in Huntsville, but more than that there are pine trees sixty foot tall. I learn to draw there and ironically was the lowest in the class. People take art seriously in Texas. I cryed when I had to leave for the North . I still hate snow and cold. One said thing was that urban sprawl from Houston was tearing down the trees. I like leather.

Most people don’t think of East Texas as big sky, but by every fake lake is big sky.the clouds are for the high rainfall but also as East Texans have a shadow of how Texan they really are.   In the bottom left corner, there is an oil well. The trees are for the lop lolly pine forest making its other name “Piny Woods.”  The oil well called the “grasshopper” is one of the dominant industries for the region makes the small East Texas city of Humble a nationally known. (The company is now called Exxon. When the mayor of Humble was ask if the name of the city would change with the company , he answered, “H* no!”)  The hill that the trees are on is shaped like the Alamo because the furthest south of the Piny Woods with San Jacinto where Texas won its freedom.  It is 5.5” x 8.5,” drawn with pastels and completed recently. Nunavut-ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ

The fairy worker making a ladder to the moon and mare of the sea fairy queen rings across the Highlands that I am Clan Morrison. Colored chalk from pastels and cardboard paintings declare me an artist. Nunavut itself is an artwork. ᓄᓇᕗᒼ is the newest territory. ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ (Inuktitut) is the language of the native Inuit of the territory which used a separate alphabet. My name is ᒪᑑ. The sad thing is everything is overpriced as in four dollars for a candy bar, I always find ladders unstable.

Its mythology is similar to western mythology. Inukpasugjuit may be Bigfoot. Ijirait or Tarriaksuit appear like a Scottish fairy. Far behind everything is  Mount Pelly which is said to be three giants who froze to death. Everything is on a Thule sod house in the Qaummaarviit Historic Park. The handle with the marine mammals is the Mace of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut and is made on a Narwhal tusk. The tube hut is for  Pond Inlet /ᒥᑦᑎᒪᑕᓕᒃ . The boat is  Our Lady of Lourdes in Tuktoyaktuk.  The boot is a Baffinland Inuit Boot. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white charcoal and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Hillcountry Waterfall, is 5”x7” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently. One of the things about Texas is raftin’ in the Hill Country of central Texas. The scenery is prettier from that view.  If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@gmail.com to order.

Vancouver-Canada's Oregon

The gold drops reviled the beautiful Fairy land and Michel Scottís white snake sing that I am clan Morrison.  The English-speaking art scene is Vancouver. It is said to be the maple syrup flavored Seattle. The eco tourism of the left leaning left coast has a boast a bridge showing the red wood canopy. Ironically, the provinces greatest industry is lumber. I used to live in snake country.

British Columbia has a special mythology. Bigfoot was first observed in this area. The word ìsasquatchî comes from the people of the area term for wield man. Behind everything is three women were turned in to a mountain upon their request after their love was lost and is called the ìThree Sisters Mountain.î Behind everything on the left is the Fisgard Lighthouse which is the oldest light house on the Canadian West Coast. Everything is on the providenceís official flag. The woven hat is for the Haida nation who is original inhabitants of the province. The "Zhong" (pillar with the Chinese characters on it) is the Monument to Chinese-Canadian veterans which honors the railroad worker and veteran of WWII of Chinese descent. The Girl in the scuba gear is the ìThe Girl in the Wetsuitî which rests on rock by the Staney Park Seawall in Vancouver It is 9" x 12," drawn with pencil and white charcoal and completed recently. Le République-Poppy

The ghost mother of Pabbay who go bless the gift with the strength of the child and the daughter who could not save the ship with black magic cast the spell that I am clan Morrison. The paper that response to the flow of the media and the graphite mixed with clay play the tune that I am an artist. As an artist, France is the ideal of greatness. The greatest of all art is Paris and the ultimate is the Louvre, but any one descends into the French country side finds true beauty that was my personal change from a student to artist in a land covered in coquelicot  (poppies). I find Jewish “magic” saves.

Poppies are themselves are mythical. John McCrae in his poem –“-In Flanders Field:”
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
The flowers are for remembrance. Poppies remember those who died in war but are also native to France. The poppies looked good with the French flag and from my time in France it fits. It is 8” x 6,” drawn with pastels and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Feeling flames as Cool is 8.5” x 11” and drawn with Sumi-e on watercolor paper recently. The Japanese says, “a true meditation makes one feel the flame as cool.” If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Manitoba-Canadian middle

The ghosts that are bound to Edinburgh Vaults and the black dog of Death swear to the hills that I am Clan Morrison. The smell of alcohol that dissolves the pastel chalk and the Zen of Sumie say that I am an artist. As an artist, I have always been interested in the Native American and Americans have an acute interest in the Plains Nations. Most these nations call Manitoba home with Winnipeg being the original trading post of them.  I was a major rail hub until the Panama Canal. I considered going to a Bible college In the province about ten miles from the Minnesota border. In many ways it is very similar to Minnesota being in the prairie but the lake changes it to be more be more Ohio. As an English colony, it was given a royal ballet. I had a black dog named Daisy.

Manitoba has a special and unique mythology. Thunder birds fly over the provence.  Behind everything is the Esplanade Riel which connects Winnipeg to St. Boniface and is the only pedestrian restaurant bridge in North America. The polar bear behind everything on the left is for the port of Churchill, the only Canadian arctic port. The wooden boat behind everything on the right is for the Manitoba Museum which shows the areas maritime history. The lake monster in right corner is Winnipogo in Lake Winnipegosis . Everything on the  smiling marshmallow thing  is called “Happy Rock” in Gladstone.  The scepter on Happy Rock is the Manitoba’s Mace which is used in the Legislative Assembly. The weird fan under the mace is for the Manitoba Electrical Museum and Education Centre.  It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is CSA Winter Camp, is 9”x6” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently. The flag is my personal favorite Confederate flags the Breckinridge Flag from west Tennessee. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Apache-Color of the West

The pot that the fairy wife took and Olaf the Black who washed up on Lewis sing that I am Clan Morrison. Bamboo and horse hair blushes endowed with Japanese culture and the pastels of France tell that I am an artist. The closest thing to the highlanders in the US is Apache. My sister’s Texas history teacher pronounced the name “A-pot-to-shey.” The best known was the Dutch Reformed “Medicine Man nicked named Geronimo. Morrisons are said to be descendent of Olaf the Black or Lost Tribes.

Apache have one of the most interesting mythologies. Their cryptid is a Skinwalker, a shapshifter. The Arizona wilderness has a special beauty which can only be expressed in pastels. The distinct red, blues and yellows are more controlled with chalk. Like all good pastel works, I has a lot of purple. I had to use a book to get the colors right. Originally, the teepees were not going to be in it, but it needed something special by the river that shows humanity. It was difficult to add the white teepee, but after that was done adding a black buffalo herd was easy. It is 8” x 6,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Pacific Island, is 6”x8” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently. I enjoyed drawing American Samoa, but the way I do the State Series does not have color. However, the Pacific needs color. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Nova Scotia-New Scots

Prince of the Kingdom of Level-Plains who rested in the Green Island and the highland lost to clearance cry the lone tune of illegal pipes that I am clan Morrison. The bound of chalk and watercolors say that I am an artist. Nova Scotia was originally a colony of Scotland which it shared with France. My people ended up in Ohio.

Nova Scotia has a very different mythology. Behind everything on the left is All Souls Church. Behind everything in the sky is the reverse Saltier which is the flag of Nova Scotia. Behind ever thing on the right is the Halifax town clock. The great statue is Evangeline in Grand-Pré. She is the statue of the Wadsworth poem and Grand-Pré was her home Nova Scotia is where Cajuns come from. She is wear a tam (with red hair) which is a tradition highlander hat for the highland clearances to Nova Scotia. The song says, “O 'illean bithibh sunndach A-null air a bhòidse.”  In front is Fort Anne. Sticking out of the roof is a nanchor shaft from the Halifax Explosion. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Forȇt,  is 6”x8” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently. I stayed in Mexico for a week and Monterey street kind of seem like this. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Tao Stone-Zen

The gold-hilted sword, giant of the gray hag and the three white dogs of Finley swear to the Highlands that I am Clan Morrison. The purple dust that clings to everything and the Zen mind on find when one seeks the perfect black declares me an artist. The mind is the spirit of existence. Zen is the mixture of Tao and Buddha., but Zen literally is neither Taoist nor Buddhist. It is said to be simple elegance but is better understood as living in the moment. Its essence is chi being bond to Ying and yang thus Tao. The Tao is God without the Western Ideas which make him nationalistic and evil.

Tao stones have thier have their own mythos. It symbolizes existence and balance in life thus Tao. But, stone are also bound to the “eight fold path.” Likewise, stones are bound to the Japanese board game Go which is considered a martial art. The Japanese phase is the Zenism “Seeking Life in Death.” It cares the idea of understanding death through each moment.  The idea of the piece is the word Tao also means steam. I drew this in a stream near where I live putting the Zen sumie on with meditation music on after wards. I ended up using a ruler to get the proportions perfect.    I used some extra ink to outline the main stone and its reflection for definition. It is 12” x 18,” drawn with Sumie on watercolor paper and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Forȇt,  is 4” x 7.5” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently.  The name means forest in French. It was with only 3 colors plus white and black. Most of my drawing is done in the forest. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Croix-First Blood

The ballad verse of the Blue Men from Lewis and the smith who did not name his dirk sing the chorus that I am Clan Morrison. The fixative that holds chalk and the rolled paper that smooths drawing say that I am an artist. In a college communication class, one of my term papers focused on St. Croix. It is tropical “Tammany Hall” and the “Muckrackers.” The island is one of the most left leaning in the West Indies except for Cuba. In 1493, the Caribs drove Columbus from the island. St. Croix was a colony of France until the Danes bought it in 1733, but the us bought it in 1917. The main industry was sugar and rum product until the late 1800’s, but Americans brought in Puerto Ricans to restart the sugar manufacturing. Morrisons are from Lewis.

St. Croix has a special mythology dotted with pirates. Behind everything on the right side is Eliza James McBean Clock Tower. Be everything on the left is the Steeple Museum originally called the Lord God of Sabbath Lutheran church however was turned into a military base after the church moved to the Dutch Reform Church in 1831. It was later a school and a hospital. Everything rests on a doorway  with leaves from St. George Village Botanical Garden which is on a former Danish plantation and an ancient Amerindian settlement. The wedges surroundings the barrel is from Point Udall, the most eastern point of the US. The barrel is for Cruzan Rum Factory which began immediately after the fall of prohibition and is one of the few distillers left on the island which continually equally produced sugar until the 1961. After twenty years, it made the island different in being not dependent on tourism. (it is currently owned by Beam, Inc.)The carnival feathered head dress is for Christmas carnival which first started in 1912 but restarted in 1952. The cannon cart is for Fort Frederik which is said to be the first place in the Caribbean to recognize the US and the slaves were emancipated in 1848. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Marsh,  is 5” x 7.5” and drawn with pastel on cardboard recently. The unique nature of using color is the broad palette of colors. There is a lot of neon pink in white clouds.  I am from the Bayou, but trees were dominated so I found this fun. The domination of clouds is a different element. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Dragon- Yamata no Orochi

The red hounds on the black, sky chariot’ black cloud of the Thunder Hag and the spear of Conall Curlew rattle that I am Clan Morrison. The alcohol, pastel stain on heavy paper and the humanity created by chalk sing that I am an artist. Dragons are a main stay of most mythologies. Christianity has them both as the animorph of evil and also the animal that St. George killed in Libya. The Celt viewed dragons and wise creatures. The main Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl was a dragon. One should not forget the girl with the dragon tattoo. The discoverer of dinosaurs considered them to be the same as dragons. My sister use to have beagle.

The name of this piece is Yamata_no_Orochi named after the dragon which protected Buddha under the Bo Tree, but is normally depicted with eight heads. Japan honors the creator as a kami, one of the four divine beasts calling it ryū or tatsu. Originally I named the piece Wood Dragon. Ironically the proper of Japanese maple is dragon wood. The technich to accomplish the idea of scales is by skipping in on stroke.  It is 8.5” x 11,” drawn with Sumie and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Bench,  is 12” x 18” and drawn with Sumi-e and ink June 2016. The picture was drawn at an exclusive park the last day it was open for the season. Ironically, I was worried it would rain momentarily. The phrase in Japanese is “the voice of autumn” or “the wind” as fall is coming. It is on the empty backdrop of a pond, because school is started. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Guam-American Pacific

The leap of the sword of Light Foot who made the blood stones and the protection of the Green Lady play the ballad that I am Clan Morrison. The dust of pastel chalk bound with hair spray and the hard, ruff nature of water color paper sing to the wind that I am an artist. American Oceana is best expressed in Guam. It has a stable economy and a great rugby team with a extraordinarily large military base. The principal during my last year in high school was stationed in was station in Guam where his wife taught at the gigantic Christian school. The name Guam either means “we have” or “valued place.” It was owned by Spain and was an important port of call between Mexico and the Philippines but after Mexico’s independence lost importance. America received the island because of the Spanish American War but did not develop the Island until after World War II.  The native population like Saipan is Chamorro and Japanese.  Its major production still is rice. I have a French Knife.

Guam has a very special mythology. The petro glyph of two kissing behind everything on the right-side is Puntan Dos Amantes. The story goes that two lovers were drawn apart because her father arranged her marriage with a Spanish captain. It is said that two lovers tied their hair together and jumped off this cliff rather than the girl marring a Spaniard.  The pillar and capstone behind everything on the left is the Latte of Freedom.  It was started for America’s bicentennial but lacked funding. It was revised in 2004 and finished in 2010. Lattes were the foundation for Chamorro traditional houses. Everything is on the Guam flag. The tree in the center is from Hagatna Boat Basin Channel. The submarine is a Ha. 62-76 Japanese Midget Attack Submarine which grounded itself on Togcha Beach in 1944 and rests in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park. The lady on the sub is Sirena from Agana whose bottom half turned into a fish do to her mother’s curse but whose top half was protected by her godmother. The cannon is from the Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledåd which overlooks Umatac Bay.  The most recognizable part of the fort is the guard house. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

Seeking_Coolness.jpg The name of this piece is Seeking Coolness, is 9” x 12” and drawn with Sumi-e recently. The name is a translation of the Japanese proverb for the summer. The flower is a western iris. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Rain-Sui-Riu

The search of the Princess of Land-Under-the-Sea and the sea stead of the Dark Prince sing to the sea that I am Clan Morrison. The rawness of beauty and the simplicity of medium declare me an artist. It is said that the weather report for Ohio is “It will be overcast unless there is a severe drought.” I am from Texas so either it rain or it does not rain, but I have enjoyed a good hurricane party in my time. Actually when Hurricane Rieda came through the area needed some rain.

Rain has always been mythologized. The Japanese mythology has the king of dragons fulfill this. The name they give it is Sui-Riu (Rain dragon), the Chinese call it T'ien Lung. Its power over rain is from swallowing large amounts of water and plowing boiling gusts. The ascending dragon and rain symbolize prosperity. Like all Japanese dragons it is three toed. It is 8.5” x 11,” drawn with Sumie  and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Eternal Bamboo, is 12” x 18” and drawn with Sumi-e recently. The swallow is lucky symbol of fertility. The chupi style is more a style in amini. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Commonwealth of Northern Mariana islands-Japanese Polynesia

The great black hand which stole the Face-of-Light and the boulders of the sons of Beira whisper to the stone that I am Clan Morrison. The yoga which derives the nature of the chi which creates beauty and the organic design declare that I am an artist. My brother knew a guy who half Central Pacific island and half Japanese. That is who the Chamorro people are. The other native people are the Carolinians who immigrated later. The occidental history of the island is Spain sold to Germany who lost to Japan who seeded to the UN who gave to America. The Japanese were the only ones to really develop the islands both agrarian and infrastructure. They brought in people from all over to Chrysanthemum Empire to build up the islands. (Some Chamorros in Saipan still speak Japanese) The US mostly turned the Island into a Japanese Tourist destination. They did not get US citizenship until the 1980’s. I used a bolder to make my prayer cove in Indiana.

The Northern Marianas Islands have a very special mythology. There was some sort of tiger that formerly lived on Saipan but is not in this picture. Behind everything with the flags is the American Memorial Park which the more than four thousand solder who died in the Battle of Saipan. At the end of the battle many of the residence chose suicide. The statue of the islander is of Aghurubw who was the Carolinian chief who brought his people to the island and named it Seipel meaning empty. The Obyan uncapped latte (stone pillar) and low stone wall are for the first Chamorro village under Spain.. The model of the bathyscasgage (weird submarine) is for the Marianas Trench, one of the lowest places on earth. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently

The name of this piece is Zen Pond,  is 12” x 18” and drawn with Sumi-e and ink June 2016.the picture was  a wrong pass from a small park which I had not been to but it was a beautiful day.  The sumie was added to emphasize the small pier. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Beira’s creel that formed Little Wyvis and the fleece that the little old man whitened whisper to the wind that I am Clan Morrison. The focus applied to empty paper and the fish sent of sumie breath that I am an artist. The Pacific has always been the inspiration for art The Tokugawa period’s greatest peace was the “Fury of the Pacific.”  Ironically the name means “Peaceful.”  I have never actually seen the Pacific but my dad is from California. From there, I learned many surfers cannot swim.

The Pacific has a unique mythology. The Japanese mythologize the Ocean itself with the dragon. Ryu Jin in invoked for fisherman and is considered the guardian of Shinto. The  dragon ascending is a symbol of prosperity. The shrine is  connected to those who fear and worship the Pacific. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

American Samoa- South Pacific

The  secrete water of the Well of Youth on the floating Green Island of the West and the twists of the Bennane Cave sing that I am Clan Morrison.  The twists of the studies of art and the discipline of drawing say that I am an artist. American Samoans are like us Scot Americans big and religious. American Samoa is possibly the least known or developed Inhabited US Territory. Ironically, Americans know American Samoa for the book Coming of Age in Samoa which was part of the 1920’s “Jazz”  and tattoos which is ironically as they are primarily devout Christians. According to legend, the islands were owned by Tonga, but Queen Salamasina unified the Islands as an independent Samoa who descendants were the four noble families. In 1830 John Williams of the London Missionary society brought the gospel to the islands. The United States formally got it as part of the backlash of the “Scramble for Africa” and “Great Game” in a treaty in 1900 which divided the Islands. 1976, American Samoa finally got home rule with their own governor.  The Islands still keep Fa’a Samoa of chiefs, extended family and church. I went to a college in Florida for a semester near the “Fountain of Youth.”

Samoan Mythology is greater than most of territories mythology with the exemption of Hawaii. The Islands have crytids also such as sea monsters and Nifoloa (long toothed creator near the villages of Falelima) but not in the drawing.  Behind everything is the Fatu ma Futi or Flowerpot Rock which is a sea stack or volcanic plug in American Samoa National Park. Everything is on the grave of Jean-Francois La Perouse who died on December 11, 1787 by Samoans which marks Massacre Bay. Everything is in a tanoa which piper methysticum is pounded in the ‘ava ceremony which is at all chiefly, public and government meetings. Before drinking the Highest Chief pour some on the floor then gives a toast and every one can drink. The stick with long fur is a fue (fly whisk) and is part of public speaking. (It is Coconut fiber not fur.) it is worn on the shoulder by the talking chief. (tulafale) The matau (stone adze (wood shaping tool)) is for the Tataga-matau wher they used to mine basalt for stone tools which were used across the Pacific. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Harmany is 9” x 12” and drawn with Sumi-e on watercolor paper recently. It is a Japanese wasp  on the top left corner and a Japanese Whiteeye on the bottom right. Birds eat wasp wasps sting birds, harmony. Asian Logic is all about enemies finding harmony as in Taoism with Ying and yang. United States Virgin Islands

The bright colors of the illegal tartans and the hooves of the Black Douglas whisper to the wind that I am Clan Morrison. The thousands of colors of black Sumie and the scent of chalk breathe that I am an artist. I have never been to the US Virgin Islands but after research, I realized that St. Croix deserved its own picture so that my piece to honor the USVI does includes only the northern cluster which is primarily St Tomas and St. John. Christopher Columbus named it calling it the “Land of a Thousand Virgins.” According to legion, the Danes claimed the chain by cutting their claim in a piece of fruit. The United States bought the Islands because of World War I. As part of the New Deal, it was turned into a tourist destination which it remains today and permitted to vote in local elections. During WWII the islands became a base of operation for the Navy.  It was not until 1970 that they could elect their own governer. The Virgin Islands are unique in that there is a large Jewish population in Saint Tomas. The main religion on the Islands though officially Baptist is actually obeah/Voodoo. I have my clan’s tartan scarf.

Saint Tomas and Saint John both have unique mythologies although there is not specific cryptid. Behind everything is one of the four working windmills which is currently in St. Tomas most of Saint John’s windmill are ruins. The windmill is sor the mass sugar plantations which were on the Islands. After using up all the covics for labor the Danes imported slaves. (The slaves were freed in 1848.) Everything is on the ruins of the wall of Fortberg. It was built in 1717 after the British were derived from St. John but during a successful slave revolt it was turned to rubble. (French troops were called in to defeat them.)   The British held the fort during the Napoleonic Wars. The hat is for it history of pirates especially Black Beard. From Columbus to the early 1700s, British, French, and Dutch privateers corsairs, freebooter, corsairs and pirates  rulled the area. ( ( various names because Eropean government (except for Danes) let them have the Islands) The Bamboo stalk is for the 7,000 acre Virgin Islands National Park. It is said that there are more types of bamboo in the Caribbean that the Orient. The ball belt is from the Cinnamon trail Archeological Site which is eroding into the sea. The artifacts date back to 840 BC to the time of Columbus and are from a Taino burial site. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Eternal Bamboo, is 12” x 18” and drawn with Sumi-e recently. The bamboo is a symbol of strength and the turtle is said to live ten thousand years. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Iowa-Farm

The soot of the prongs of the Clearances and the breath of a Nuckelavee sing the ballade that am Clan Morrison. The pine soot which becomes a soot stone the breath of drops of sumie tells the world that I am an artist. Part of my family comes from Iowa. My birth parental grandmother was from just inside the Iowa border but her parents were from Hanover, Germany which many Iowans originate.  But this is normal for thestate as the name is Native Americans from Illinois who had to move doe to a government take over. (Similar to what happen for the German immigration. Ironically when my grandpa remarried she was also from Iowa. (50 miles away) Iowa is proud of being normal. (I am proud of being weird.)  Ironically, it has the first caucus which is very abnormal. The Republican winner rarely becomes the nominee. The media descends on farm communities but totally forgets about the state except for hurricane season as it is on the edge of tornado alley.  They are also known for coal which was originally an African American job. I have never able to find a picture of those prongs.

Iowa has a different mythology. It has a “mugwan” and a warewolf. Behind everything is a crest of a Amana Colony barn (Amada is a commune of pietist.) The first village was founded 1855 Amana constitution was chartered in 1859. (as a business) e. Everything is on a farm kitchen table as farming started in the 1830’s but took off after the Civil War. Iowa is known for bacon, beef, corn, wheat etc. The “A” is for the state having the first public school and the first high school in the 1850’s. The flower is the state flower prim rose. The Rock is the state gem Amethyst which druids say help one sleep. (I drew it from my real rock.)  It is 8” x 10,” drawn with pencil and white charcoal and completed 2014.

The name of this piece is Coming Home is 9” x 12” and drawn November 2015. Going home is one of the strongest emotions. This Highlander just returned from war and lost a leg in combat to his parent’s old farm. (yes, the uniform is accurate.) .If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Washington D.C-Capital City

The arrow hitting the Island Beast and Merlin’s Crag that house the Sith sing a ballad to the wind that I am Clan Morrison. The beauty of the research models and the zen of the nature sing that I am an artist.  The one Southern “state” is the Distric of Columbia (In 1860, Washington’s mayor seceded which is why the union army commandeered all the buildings. They did not gave a mayor for a hundred years. Currently they have no representation on their taxes which is why they say “No taxation without repisentation.) My brother went is DC for his senior trip and said that it has the worst drivers except around Federal buildings. It is said that the Washington has worse violence then Bagdad which is why Congress deposed the mayor until 2006 with the drop in crime. As also being the capital of the US and congress defining their government, there is some resentment among residents and officials. The region was settled by Anacostines until the Ulster came in the  late 1600’s. The District was establishing in 1788 and was desighned by Pierre L’Enfant. Slaverly was big in washing ton and Georgetown until the Civil war. Then, all the cities where unified as Washington under Grant.  I think I saw a sith.

Washington, DC has a really great mythology. A Snallygaster which is kind of like a pterodactyl flys over from time to time and the is a demon cat that hunts mice in the Smithsonian and White House, but neither made the picture. (I think that the president owns a cat but did not tell Americans.) Behind everything on the left is Washington Monument. It is two tone because of its completion by Grant. Behind everything on the right in the US Capital Building which is restored from the fire in 1812.   It was not completed until the end of the Civil War. Everything is on the Flag in the Lincoln Box in Ford Theater where he was shot in 1864 and is currently preserver as it was. The book with Shakespeare is for the Folger Shakespeare Library which contains a third of Will Shakespeare original works. The ruby slipper is for the Smithsonian. The rock is the Hope Diamond which is said to be cursed ever since it was taken from the head of an idol.  In was founded out of a strange bequest of a strange Englishman. It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Wheat is 8.5” x 11” and drawn with Sumi-e on watercolor paper recently. I always looked forward to wheat in Indiana. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.

Illinois- Chicago

The Cup of Healing of the little brown man and the spear Gea-Bolg of Setana blow into the waves that I am Clan Morrison. The Ink sketch of a calm lake and the Zen of the shakuhachi fluke play to the wind that I am an artist. I started my art “career” on the Illinois Indiana border and learn to drive in Illinois. It is said that Illinios was fast tracked to statehood because of the Illionios-Missippi Canal connected the East Coast to New Orlands as a Free State. Illinois is still very agrarian and centrally not very populated. It is largely defined its largest city Chicago which is also the largest inland port in the United States. ( I used to live in Chicagoland.) this is why Al Capone defines the state in spite of the fact that he spent more time in Indiana. But, corruption in Chicago is rampant even now. I study fairies like the little brown man now.

The mythology of Illinois is especially unique. It has a three lagged creators named the Enfield Horror which is not in the picture. Behind everything is the Chicago Water Tower which survived the Great Fire. The tower was  built 1869 to pump clean water to the Chicago as Lake Michigan water directly surrounding the city was to polluted. It inspired the outside design of White Castel Burger restaurants. Everything is on the Garden of the Gods Wilderness stone in Shawnee National Forest which is honored in the states National park quarter.  It was part of the Depression area CCC operation. The top hat is of course Lincoln’s top hat as Illinois is called “The Land of Lincoln.”  Licon moved to the state when he was twenty after living in Indiana and Kentucky. He is buried in the state. The bean (which is its nickname) is the Cloud Gate.  It was designed by an Indian and reflects Michigan Avenue. The windmill is the Fabyan Windmill. It was built in the mid-1800’s in Lombard, Illinois but was moved to Fabya Forest Preserve in 1914 and was restored by a Dutch windmill maker in 2005.  It is 9” x 12,” drawn with pencil and white chalk and completed recently.

The name of this piece is Chanting Dragon is 8.5” x 11” and drawn with Sumi-e on watercolor paper February 2016. Dragon are close to gods in Asia and symbolizes fatherliness. The phrase in English is “the dragon chants through the withered tree,” a zen meditation. Connecticut- Revolutionary

The hazel staff of Saint Columba and the wolver’s fishing pole  smell in the Highland snow that I am Clan Morrison, the true Brieves of Lewis. The ancient life of chalk which brings light and smooths shading and the continual search for subjects swear that I am an artist. The one true connection Texas has to New England in Connecticut’s Colt six-gun. (Ironically, New England is not into gun right. Southerners have a view that Connecticut is the quintessential Yankee.) The name comes from the Pequot word for long river. As a colony it was three colonies merged colonies founded by Massachusetts Puritans with Rhode Island Ideas who named it the Saybrook colony. It received the scares of great battles in the American Revolution. The Federalist Party was lost because Connecticut and Massachusetts wanted to secede during the war of 1812. (How Demarcates survived the War of Northern Aggression I will never know.) Yule is in there as opposed to the “College State.” (As colleges are concerned, UConn Huskies rule the NCAA basketball. No I am not a huskies fan.) But, people think of the state as “New York’s bedroom.” I also sell walk staff in East Ohio.

Connecticut has a very interesting Mytheos which is mon head countryand it does have witches. Everything rest on the Connecticut flag which was based on the seal of Colonel George Fenwick which had the phrase “Qui Transtulit Sustinet.” (What is transplanted sustains) the oak leaves which are symbolic of faith and strength were added. It was adopted in 1895 but was changed in 1990. It was originally purposed by a Confederate widow. The coffee server is for the states silver-smithing. The clock is for all clocks in the US were on Connecticut time. This is because Eli Terry was able to invent the shelf clock. Using this technology pocket watches were mass destitute by Timex. The state was at one time the “Switzerland of America.” in the early 1800’s. The cigar in front of the clock is for the state’s tobacco industry with two special types of tobacco especially for cigars which started in 1640 with seeds from Virginia and only in recent years has waned. The tobacco is grown in the shade. The bird is the state bird, the American robin which summers in New England.  It is 8” x 10,” drawn with pencil and white charcoal and completed 2014.

The name of this piece is Long Life is 9” x 12” and drawn with Sumi-e on watercolor paper February 2016. Both the turtle and the crane are symbolic of long life in Japan. It is also said that if one fold one thousand cranes a wish is granted. If you are interested in buying this or any other of my work email me at MatthewMorrison76@yahoo.com to order.
